Public Works is proud to welcome two artists representing the forefront of European house music: Rampue from Berlin, Germany, alongside a pair of Romanians known as Livio & Roby.
Over the past decade, a small group of dedicated Romanians has revitalized the sound of minimal house and techno. Livio & Roby, also known as Monochrome and Premiesku, are key members of this scene — they released their first record in 2005, and have been DJing around the world (and releasing records non-stop!) ever since. Friday's party will mark their San Francisco debut.
They take the minimal techno blueprint — spare, careful rhythms punctuated with big basslines — and update it with samples of all kinds: tribal drums, vocal snippets, guitar licks, jazz piano — you name it. The result is a funky, playful twist on the typical minimal sound.
Joining the pair is Rampue, part of the extended Audiolith family. He's an on-the-rise Berliner who perfectly captures that city's summery, warm vibe — a little bit disco, a little bit house, a little bit pop, and all groove.
