Lisa Freiman is regarded as one of the most inventive contemporary art curators in the US. She is inaugural director of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Institute for Contemporary Art, and was formerly senior curator at Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA). At IMA, she conceived of 100 Acres—a sculpture park emphasizing experimentation, place-making, and public engagement. Freiman also served as the commissioner for the United States Pavilion in the 54th Venice Biennale, which presented site-responsive work by Allora & Calzadilla.
