As bands all over the country are rediscovering the scrappy, jangly sounds of '90s and early aughts emo acts, San Jose natives Leer are leading the charge of the so-called "emo revival" in the South Bay. Since forming in 2001, Leer have earned a passionate cult following, with their powerful mix of angular, mathy hooks, interlocking indie rock noodling and post-hardcore spasticity. Lead vocalist Brandon Holder's lyrics are rife with dual meaning, and play on topics that work equally as a sarcastic self-parody and honest confession, a solid approach to artistic integrity in a world of cynicism. It also works well with their adept-but-loose style.
