Description
Lecture/Demonstration featuring Barbatuques, KeKeÇa and the Inuit Throat Singers Celina Kalluk and Lucie Idlout sing Inuit vocal games from Canada’s Arctic territory of Nunavut.

Barbatuques has been developing their unique “circle orchestra” of twelve musicians who rock out stunning versions of samba and maracatu classics by moving and vocalizing.

A very different conversation unfolds in the work of Turkish body musicians KeKeÇa. The duo, with backgrounds in theater and folk music, transform Turkish traditional songs into gentle pieces for the body with a flowing subtlety—an elegant departure from the athletic prowess sometimes associated with body music.

the 1ST International Body Music Festival at various venues in San Francisco and Oakland from Tuesday, December 2 to Sunday, December 7. Over six days, the festival will feature concerts, workshops, teacher trainings, a lecture-demonstration, a body music open-mic, a family matinee, and in-school assembly programs.
