Kala Art Institute and California College of the Arts are pleased to present a lecture program with 2014 Artslink Fellowship artists Katya Nikonorova from Kazakhstan and Neno Belchev from Bulgaria. We hope you can join us for this lecture followed by a farewell reception for the artists.
Kazakhstan artist Katya Nikonorova, an artist in residence throughout the Arts LInk Fellowship program and the California College of Arts, will present the work of a wide variety of artists from Kazakhstan. This presentation will include internationally known artists as well as members of the vibrant, young and upcoming Kazakh art community. Nikonorova will address the conceptual and aesthetic development of Kazkah contemporary art through their work and speak about the trends and themes that are most relevant artists working in Central Asia.
Neno Belchev is a multidisciplinary artist, who recently was an artist in residency by CEC Artslink Award at KALA Art Institute (Berkeley, CA). Neno will present his latest video art works and will talk about his work completed in the bay area. The talk aims to enlighten the concept and ideas behind the work and Neno’s understanding about art.
Katya Nikonorova was born in Alma-Ata, Kazkhstan in 1981. She received her degree in Architecture and Urban Planning at Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Since 2000, Nikonorova has focused on a contemporary fine arts practice. She has participated in exhibitions, seminars and workshops internationally including exhibitions in Almaty, Bishkek, Moscow, London, Paris, Turin and Singapore. Her work frequently addresses the topic of architecture, land and urban planing. Nikonorova's most recent works explore questions around spirituality and mysticism. Since 1012, she has held her own Biennale, titled "Biennale of Katya Nikonorova" in Almaty. She will present her second Biennale during her Arts Link Fellowship in San Francisco.
Born in 1971 in Varna, Bulgaria, Neno has graduated from National Academy for Fine Arts in Sofia, BG. He recently works in the fields of video art, performance, installation, sculpture, new media as well as independent curator. Neno has participated in a wide range of solo and group, national and international exhibitions: at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte REINA SOFIA (Madrid, SPAIN; 2014); at Hong Kong City Art Hall (HONG KONG / 2013); at National Centre for Contemporary Arts (Saint Petersburg branch, RUSSIA / 2011); White Box Gallery and Apexart (New York, USA / 2010); OCAT of He Xiangning Art Museum (Shenzhen, CHINA / 2009); Wichita Falls Museum (Texas, USA / 2009); DEPO Tutun Deposi (Istanbul, TURKEY / 2009); Today Art Museum (Beijing, CHINA / 2008); Moerenuma Koen Hidamari Museum (Sapporo, JAPAN / 2007) and many others. He has been awarded artist in residence grants (AIR) in USA, Russia, China, Japan, France and Portugal and awards from international video and film festivals in Russia, USA, the Netherland and Austria.
