Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce Le Chat Noir, an invitational group exhibition inspired by La Belle Époque. In particular, imagery inspired by Steinlen’s iconic Le Chat Noir poster art. The month of October also presents a unique opportunity for our participating artists to explore the historic influence of the black cat in this, a distinctly Parisian way.
Beginning in roughly 1871, the peace and prosperity in Paris allowed the arts to flourish, and many masterpieces of literature, music, theater, and visual art gained international recognition. The Belle Époque was named, in retrospect, when it began to be considered a "golden age" in contrast to the horrors of World War I. Le Chat Noir (French for "The Black Cat") was a nineteenth-century entertainment establishment in the bohemian Montmartre district of Paris. Le Chat Noir is thought to be the first modern cabaret but historically best known now by its iconic Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen poster art.
Featuring Ransom & Mitchell, Lacey Bryant, Carly Janine Mazur, Leilani Bustamante, Laura Buss, Chuck Sperry, Ania Tomicka, Amandalynn, Leon Loucheur, Justin Hopkins, Sheri DeBow, Jessica L.L Dalva, Megan Buccere, Caitlin Hackett, Carolyn Weber, Kurtis Rykovich, Mandy Tsung, Robert Bowen, Erica Calardo, Simona Candini, Lucy Yu, Syd Bee, Marc Le Rest, Brianna Angelakis, Jaclyn Alderete, Christina Mrozik & Zoe Keller.
The opening reception will be held at Modern Eden Gallery on Saturday, October 18 from 6-10pm. Select featured artist will be in attendance at the reception. The exhibition will be on display through November 1, 2014 and is free and open to the public.
