LB Steak on Santana Row in San Jose will be celebrating Kentucky Derby Day on Saturday, May 4, with the addition of a la carte food and drink specials highlighting the cuisine of the Louisville area or associated with the race itself. The regular brunch/lunch and dinner menus will also be available.
Derby Day additions, served from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., will be a Mint Julep for $9.00 with Kentucky Bourbon, muddled sugarcane and spearmint ice cubes; bar snacks (available only at the bar and on the patio) consisting of a Derby Cheese Hat for $5.00 with housemade crackers and garlic and herb goat cheese, plus Benedictine Tea Sandwiches for $5.00 with cucumber, cream cheese and Pullman loaf; Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich for $12.00 (available until 4:00 p.m.) with oven roasted turkey, apple wood smoked bacon and Mornay sauce gratin; Rabbit, Squab and Venison Burgoo for $28.00 with braised rabbit, squab and venison “stew,†and honey corn cakes; and Thoroughbred Pie for $6.00.
Ordering from the Derby Day menu will also afford guests the opportunity to place a “bet†(prior to the race time, 3:24 p.m. PST) in the LB Stakes, a playful spin on horse race gambling, and then possibly win a range of prizes including a two-night stay at an upscale hotel, luxury spa and beauty treatments, complimentary meals, and other food-related goodies. The restaurant will be decorated in the spirit of the occasion and the staff will be festively attired.
This will be the first of three LB Steak hosted events celebrating the major races in the U.S. thoroughbred racing Triple Crown (the Kentucky Derby on May 4, the Preakness Stakes on May 18, and the Belmont Stakes on June 8).
