A UC BERKELEY COURSE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
You are invited to share in a special dimension of the university experience by participating in Big Ideas, a signature UC Berkeley course that brings together professors from different disciplines to explore a compelling topic, or “big idea.”
This Big Ideas course investigates the intersection of the visual arts, architecture, and performance.
This spring, a Big Ideas course inspired by the exhibition Architecture of Life takes place at BAMPFA. Cotaught by Shannon Jackson, associate vice chancellor for the arts and design and professor of rhetoric and theater, dance, and performance studies, and Nicholas de Monchaux, associate professor in the Department of Architecture, this Big Ideas course investigates the intersection of the visual arts, architecture, and performance.
The course kicks off with an offsite lecture by Charles Renfro, partner at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, architects of the new BAMPFA. Subsequent Wednesday afternoon lectures will be held at BAMPFA and will feature a variety of guest artists, curators, and scholars, including Bruce Beasley, Julia Bryan-Wilson, Mel Chin, Trajal Harrell, Lucia Jacobs, Adam Nilson, Sean San Jose, Lisa Wymore, and The Yes Men. Check back for the complete schedule.
