Spreckels Theatre Company presents a staged concert
of the 1953 Broadway musical "Kismet"

"Kismet" - A Staged Concert

A fanciful and romantic Arabian Night tale, "Kismet" follows the escapades of Hajj, a beggar poet availing his charm and wit as he dangerously elevates to a position of power and influence in ancient Baghdad, threatening his daughter's chances of true love.

Rarely performed, this 1953 Tony award-winning Broadway musical delights with its exotic setting and lush score adapted from the soaring musical themes by composer Alexander Borodin. "Kismet" songs, including “Baubles, Bangles and Beads,” “Stranger in Paradise” and “And This Is My Beloved,” became popular chart toppers in 1950s.

This Spreckels Theatre Company main stage production features an 11-piece orchestra joining the 28-member cast on stage. "Kismet" stars Tim Setzer of Napa as Hajj "The Poet"; Carmen Mitchell of Santa Rosa as the poet's daughter Marsinah; Jacob Bronson of the East Bay as The Caliph and features Harry Duke as Wazir, Brenda Reed as Lalume, Jeremy Berrick as Omar Khayyam and Dwayne Stincelli as Master Brigand Jawan.

Directed by Gene Abravaya
Music Direction by Diego Garcia
Choreography by Michella Snider
Costumes by Pamela Enz
