King Lear

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre (see times)
AEB’s second Free Show in the Park for 2015 is William Shakespeare’s KING LEAR, adapted and directed by Giulio Cesare Perrone. An ensemble production which condenses and intensifies this seminal family tragedy with striking visuals, physicality and live music.

KING LEAR is presented FREE in Berkeley's lovely John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre, a co-production with Berkeley's Inferno Theatre. This is our second collaboration following last year's successful production of Penthesilea, Queen of the Amazons, also in John Hinkel Park.

All performances are at 4 p.m., running Saturdays and Sundays from August 22nd to September 7th, with a special show at 4 p.m. on Monday, September 7th (Labor Day). The amphitheater will open at 3 p.m. for picnicking. The production is approximately 2 hours long plus a 15 minute intermission.

The amphitheatre seats over 200 people, the first few rows will be reserved as a courtesy especially to those with limited mobility. Call 510-788-6415 to reserve one of those spots. The amphitheater is wheelchair accessible - access is best from Somerset Place, take Southampton from Arlington and continue straight onto Somerset Place. (Google Maps will send you to the top of the park, quite a hike down). The amphitheatre consists of a series of stone terraces. Bring low lawn chairs or pillows/cushions and/or blankets.

Ensemble Members: Sohail Alamkhel, Pierson Bishop, Karen Caronna, Jody Christian, Melissa Clason, Paul Davis, Adam Elder, Nic Griffin, Scott Hartman, Karina McLoughlin, David Andres Mejia, Benoît Monin, Michael Needham, Christina Shonkwiler, Tenya Spillman, Vicki Victoria, Susannah Wood.

Costumes and Set by Giulio Perrone. Assistant Direction and Stage Management by Phred Swain-Sugarman. Verse Coach/Dramaturge: Stephan Golux. Technical Direction by Robert Gudmundsson and Jerome Solberg. Graphic design and photography by Vicki Victoria. Makeup Artists: Shoshana Yaswen and Vicki Victoria.
