Kacey Johansing / Mara Hruby

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Kacey Johansing:

Described by The Bay Bridged as "gorgeous acoustic pop," San Francisco based musician Kacey Johansing creates songs with meandering melodies, lush harmonies and moody aural landscapes. Weaving together elements of folk, jazz, pop and classical music, it sounds as if she spent years studying in old smoky theaters with icons Leonard Bernstein and Joni Mitchell directing the show, and The Beach Boys in the orchestra pit. A soulful, honeyed voice and lilting vibrato land her the leading role.

Collaboration has proven to be a fundamental part of Johansing's creative process. She has been a member of San Francisco groups Geographer and Honeycomb, and is a current member of the experimental folk duo Yesway. Johansing has shared the stage and contributed to projects with local talents Tune-Yards, Sean Hayes, Mirah and Thao Nguyen and has collaborated with French filmmaker Vincent Moon.

Mara Hruby:

With influences such as Julie London and Patsy Cline to The Moonglows, Curtis Mayfield and Brook Benton. 25 year old singer/songwriter, Mara Hruby personifies the sound and soul of an alternative jazz legend. Her debut EP released in 2010 conceptually titled "From Her Eyes," featured Mara soulfully covering classics originally performed by men. Ranging from the likes of Jamiroquai to Bob Marley, she would re-interpret their writings while adding her own feminine touch. Marking over 80K+ downloads the project propelled Ms. Hruby into her own lane, scoring thousands of loyal fans and supporters. A captivating performer, Mara has notably sold out shows at Yoshi's Oakland and Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC. She has also performed in venues stretching from Philadelphia, DC, to Grammy Weekend 2012 in Los Angeles and the 45th Annual Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco. Ms. Hruby is currently in the studio working on her forthcoming EP titled, "Archaic Rapture" scheduled for release in 2014.
