The Vancouver-based quartet, JPNSGRLS (pronounced "Japanese girls"), blend progressive and post-punk dexterity with a grungy, garage rock attitude for a swirling, high-energy amalgamation rock and roll contradictions. As the guitar, bass and drums bound between fast, bluesy verses and big, ringing pop chorus, lead singer Charlie Kerr croons and cackles through an overdriven microphone. Sometimes the guys struggle to make the juxtaposition work, but it's clear this young band having a blast, and it's contagious.
