The beautiful tasting room of classic sonte is climate-controlled with a French provincial interior and is only a 30-minute drive from Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Jouillian Vineyards were createdby the Joullian and Sias families of Oklahoma with the goal of producing estate-crafted wines with complexity, fnesse and ageability characteristics of the finest wines of the world. This partnership embarked upon a long-term plane and engaged Ridge Watson for his international winemaking experience to develop the unique combination of land, vineyards and winery facilities to produce this fine wine.
Grapes are grown in elevation of 1400 feet in the heart of the remote Carmel Valley viticulture appellation and follow extensive contouring and terracing with 40 acres of high density spaced vines in rocky Arroyo Seco loam. The planting focuses on Bordeaux varieties and two-thirds are dedicated to Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion and Carmel Valley's first Zinfandel. Watson planted mutiple clones of each varietal fromreputed sources such as Mount Veeder, 3 Palms, Diamond Mountain, Sterling, Ventana, Brandlin, St. Peter's Church and Lytton Springs. The winery was completed in 1991 and the Village tasting Room followed.
