| Leave No Doubt Behind For the second year in a row, the USC Trojans have won a national championship. This time, there is little doubt the Trojans are the top team in the country. Last year, there was another Oklahoma team that should have probably been ranked number three and they got in the way of what would have been a great LSU / USC match-up. This year, it was more of the same, putting an over-ranked Oklahoma Sooner team in the Orange Bowl instead of the deserving Auburn Tigers. To be fair, it wasn't evident because the game had the makings of being a great one: a Penn St. vs Miami.More | | As we all eagerly await the Christmas match up of Kobe and Shaq... Ha. Are you kidding. What a joke. Christmas is the date most analysts point to as the time when teams start to show they are jelling. When systems by new coaches are supposed to start becoming understood. It is also an important date because it marks the point where roughly 1/3 of the season has passed.More | | Top Five, Bottom Five This week, with not much going on, we're starting to get a better feel for some of the trends that will likely take us into the spring. At this point the West once again looks stronger than ever. For you Easterners, sorry, you don't have any of the top teams in the league. Cleveland, Orlando and Washington are all playing hard and winning. But they need to beat one of the top five to get in. Detroit should eventually be in the top 5, as should Indy; but they're not there yet. Hey, we're still watching football. We're still getting used to being surprised that Seattle and Phoenix are this good. There are no Yaos or LeBrons amongst this year's rookie crop, but Howard and Okafor are fun to watch. I can see you all snoring with a "Wake me in the spring" sign. But to those few who forgot to go dormant, don't tire, it will get more and more curious. The dreary November-December period is almost over. Until then...More | | The Fight Dominates the media, but LeBron has my Attention Before the fight occurred, I had wanted to talk about the Warriors. Before the season, all we could hear was how they were continuing the turnaround. Right? They only needed a better front office. Enter Mullin. They only needed a more seasoned hand. Enter Montgomery. Result of the moves, uh, at least last year's Warriors were competitive. So, now from a team that only two seasons ago had a solid Jamison, Arenas, Hughes, Dampier core, we see a new crop of bad contracts and no floor leader. Bay Area fans are beginning to wonder if the Warriors will ever "come out to play-ay". Last word: .386 FG % is not going to win you too many gamMore | | The Basketball is Rolling Generally, I love predictions. Who looks good, who looks bad. It's fun to put on that ESPN prognosticator hat, be the Berninator or Dicky V and, of course, put your team up there with the others in which we see promise. This year's NBA season is no different for some, but for me, a traditional Lakers fan, everything seems different.More |
