Jerry Shanahan is not a name often heard around the Monterey area even though the guitarist and his band have been playing at Schooners, the Monterey Plaza Hotel''s lounge, for the last two years and at Maloney''s Harbor Inn at Moss Landing for three. It''s probably because he''s an Aptos resident and an unassuming, quiet sort of family man with a day job. And, frankly, gigs in hotel lounges and restaurants aren''t normally high profile. But since his drummer Anthony King is a local, word got out the band was celebrating the release of A Matter of Time, a seven-song CD which showcases the lyrical, singing quality of Shanahan''s guitar and his arranging skills along with those of keyboardist Elliott Lewis. King''s precise drumming and David Jones'' funky bass lines complement the contemplative and soulful contemporary jazz/funk tunes chosen for the recording which was produced by Grammy winner Woody Woodruff. -Beth Peerless, montereycountyweekly.com
