Japanese Noh Theater on Film: The Robe of Feathers

Interested in learning more about Japanese Noh theater? Join us for a free video screening of a classic Noh play, "The Feathered Mantle" (Hagoromo). This is a rare opportunity to learn more about this mysterious and moving art form. Sunday, April 6, 2:00pm, Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, 1840 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94115

Hagoromo is one of the most popular Noh plays in the Noh repertoire. The central figure is a celestial maiden who appears by a row of pine trees at Miho Beach to teach a lesson of compassion to a fisherman. You will also be introduced to vocal techniques utilized in Noh. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks!

The screening is part of a series in April and May, presenting four classic Noh plays that inspired "This Lingering Life," a new play by Chiori Miyagawa premiering at San Francisco's Z Space in June. For more information about the series, visit:
