Hawaiian native Jake Shimabukuro rocks the ukulele. Seriously, the guy's a virtuoso. At a 2010 Ted Talk, he played a spot-on instrumental rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" that was gorgeous and mindblowing. Before wowing the crow, he told them that the ukulele is the underdog of all instruments (which would make him the ultimate underdog shredder since no one has mastered the ukulele quite like him). He's also covered Daft Punk, Michael Jackson and the Beatles. In fact his 2006 rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was one of the first videos ever to go viral on YouTube and effectively launched his career. He also writes plenty of originals - beautiful composites of jazz, classical, flamenco and New Age music. (KF)
