Have you always wanted to write? Have you, as Ray Bradbury said, been “gathering images all of (your) life” with the hope of someday putting pen to paper? In this course, instructor J. Haley Campbell will help you demystify the writing process by introducing you to various genres such as fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and memoir/personal essays, and also by guiding you through playful explorations of some basic elements of craft such as plot, setting and characterization, writing vivid descriptions, creating conflict, having fun with metaphors and similes (images), and lots more—elements that are important to all types of creative writing.
In this class, you’ll hone your skills of observation and mine your experiences to start creating stories that only you can tell. You will write to experiment, explore, discover and, by the end of the course, have a portfolio of original, raw material, increased confidence in your writing abilities, and a plan-of-action to continue integrating writing into your life.
