"Into the Woods" at Sonoma State University
Lyrics and music by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
Classic fairy tale stories and characters merge in Stephen Sondheim's 1987 award-winning musical "Into the Woods," a modern version of what happens after "they all lived happily ever after."
Characters from "Cinderella," "Rapunzel," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "The Baker and his Wife" and "Little Red Riding Hood" are featured in this fractured musical fairy tale where desires, curses and consequences determine their fate. After all their wishes have been granted, enchantment turns to reality when characters pay for their selfish ways in this moving musical morality tale.
The Sonoma State University's Departments of Music and Theatre Arts & Dance join forces for this main stage presentation with direction by Marty Pistone, featuring a cast of 20 and 14-piece orchestra conducted by Grammy nominated Lynne Morrow. SSU student designers have created more than 200 individual costume pieces and special effects for set and lighting for this major campus production.
The Department presents its “$5 Friends & Family Night” performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 with $5 admission for all ticket buyers and SSU faculty and staff receive
free admission. Sonoma State University students are admitted free to all performances with valid student ID.
