| Description Argentine folklorico Ignacio Escribano played guitar and sang throughout his childhood in Buenos Aires, his passion slowly evolving into a calling. In 1994, he finally gave up his career as a physician to devote himself to music.
Still based in Buenos Aires, Ignacio plays classical, bossa nova, and Argentine folklore guitar, and has developed an especially soulful style of singing honed from studying with some of the most distinguished singers in Argentina today. He is often found accompanied by acclaimed musicians, such as Osvaldo Avena—Mercedes Sosa’s percussionist for more than 10 years. Ignacio performs songs from across Latin America, including interpretations of Argentine folklore and Brazilian pop. His first album, Por El Sendero, which includes a repertoire of traditional Argentine folklore, was released in 2005 to public and critical acclaim. Ignacio is also known for his Latin-style kirtan music, which he infuses with a strong personal interest in yoga and Eastern spirituality. (In 2004, he was awarded a scholarship to study Hinduism and Buddhism at Cambridge University.) By day Ignacio is a journalist and writer for La Nacion, one of the largest newspapers in Latin America, and a citizen journalism project called igooh.com. Ignacio has performed in India, Europe, New York, and South America. This is Ignacio’s first performance in the Bay Area $12–$15 suggested donation. Doors open at 7:30 pm. Show at 8:00 pm. |
