Inaugurating the new ICA performance art program ICA Live!, artist Alyssa Eustaquio will perform throughout the night. Eustaquio will present Au Courant: Facing Feminism, a participatory installation that includes an arrangement of cosmetic items packaged with an imaginary brand and containing references to feminism. Utilizing the makeup counter as a basis for open discourse, visitors are encouraged to have a dialogue with the artist about art and gender ideologies.
In 2015, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art launched ICA Live!, a new program that includes ongoing presentations of engaging and experimental performance art. Presented during downtown San Jose’s South First Fridays, ICA Live! seeks to explore the role of the performance art medium in contemporary society. Focus is placed on live, interactive and participatory projects which engage members of the audience and may include experimental sound and sculptural elements.
