| Description Death’s Boutique is a collaboration featuring new work between Los Angeles-based artists Marco Rios and Kara Tanaka. For their first artistic collaborative project together, these avid fanatics of literature and cinema coalesce their interests and base their exhibition on a 21st century self-invented mythological narrative inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni's 1975 film The Passenger. The artist’s collaboration translates key moments and issues within the film through a series of sculptures, drawings and re-appropriated video that address issues of death, spirituality and melancholia. The installation for the project mimics an elaborate stage set and includes source materials and ephemera that focus on adopting unconventional materials to create hybrid sculptures that mine an intimate personal psychology. A series of interactive events with Rios and Tanaka are scheduled during the first week of their installation. Please visit www.ybca.org for more information. |
