Description

( ( ( HOUSEPITALITY ) ) ) proudly brings you Britain's "Godfather of House" as we continue to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Fabric London's famed Wiggle party with one of the most respected founders of the London house music scene:

::EVIL EDDIE RICHARDS (Wiggle, Fabric, UK)::

Opening set by:

::FIL LATORRE (Housepitality | SF)::

Groove Lounge:

::JP SOUL (Roam Recordings, SF)::

The world of house music owes a lot to Londoners, just as it owes a great deal to Chicagoans, Detroiters, and... San Franciscans.

But folks like Eddie Richards and his compatriots in the Wiggle family (Terry Francis, Nathan Coles) have raised the appreciation of house music on an international level more than most crews have done, for over 20 years.

This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Wiggle brand, a brand named after one of their mates, and in their words, "Wiggle is and was, in essence, about quality music and unpretentious vibes."

The use of deeper house sounds—and a fearlessness about using techno—brought the Wiggle crew to new heights above the more commercial sounds that were beginning to permeate London in the late 80s.

We've already brought Terry Francis in for a set this year, and we're hungry for more, as we bring the sounds of Wiggle to old heads and new listeners, all from the cozy confines of our intimate little club.

Join us as we welcome Evil Eddie Richards, Britain's Godfather of House, for an exclusive set.

Opening up from 9-11pm, one of Housepitality's most veteran residents, the inimitable Fil Latorre. He's been throwing down in the bay area and beyond for many years, and always brings his best. Opening set, peak hour, afternoon, Fil can do it all, but I find his genre-bending, energy-building opening sets to be some of his most amazing. Don't be late.

In the back room/Groove Lounge, a champion of the local scene, DJ, producer, label-owner of the resurrected and growing label Roam Recordings, Mr. JP Soul. Jason Peters is a talented vinyl slinger whose finger has been on the pulse of SF underground music for many, many years, and we never miss a chance to have him play for us (and you!).

Come join us as we offer a night of music that would be at home on a Friday... on a Wednesday.

Because we got you. :)

Evil Eddie Richards

Eddie Richards is an integral part of the modern House scene, he has been around from the start and has played a pivotal part in the scenes movement. His achievements are numerous, establishing the first ever DJ agency, and his involvement in ‘Wiggle’ being only two. Eddie has been championed as a leader in the currently fabulous tech-house marketplace, but in reality, he is just playing the badass, tough music that has been moving dance floors for decades.

Like it or not, the only path towards being a talented dj is having loads and loads of experience. The ability to gather a record bag together and please a random dance floor in a random city is an acquired skill that only grows with practice. Eddie Richards, dance music’s quintessential pioner and "Britain’s godfather of house and techno" (Mixmag) was one of the first DJs to champion house back in the mid 8O’s & one of the UK s original mix DJ's who became a key figure in a new music and cultural movement soon to explode worldwide. After playing at such influential and original underground clubs as Clink St. & Heaven in London and Manchester's Hacienda, he went one to headline the legendary UK pay parties Sunrise. Energy and Helter Skelter among countless others. Remix and production work led to the release of club classics; ’Acidman’ in ’88 which hit the UK Top 20, followed by other chart topping remixes of Ralphi Rosario, Orbital and The Shamen. Eddie has been included in virtually every book, documentary and film about dance culture and is sought after all over the world for his flawless mix of deep bass driven techno with soulful & tough house, a format he has always maintained, and has led him to be widely regarded as the pioneer of what is now known as ’tech-house’.

JP Soul

In the early 2000s JP Soul along with friend and dj partner Chad Mitchell started the Roam Recordings record label and released their own music along with now familiar names like Justin Martin, Joshua/DJ IZ, Sammy D (from Pillow Talk), Demarkus Lewis, Lance DeSardi, Hesohi, and Rhythm Plate. JP Soul and Chad Mitchell made a great team. Chad was running a vinyl pressing business and JP had started up a makeshift studio next to the legendary dj bar the Top. The studio known as Fresh doubled as an after hours spot and many a late night were spent there after the Top let out. Epic times for sure.

For JP djing started as early as the 80s when he played house parties and high school dances. In the 90s he was regularly djing at raves around the East Coast, Mid-West, and Canada. He and Chad also hosted a weekly event in Buffalo called SMACK and brought in artists such as Robbie Hardkiss, Dubtribe, Corey Black (from 40 Thieves), Onionz, and Hipp-e in addition to many local acts. After finishing school in Buffalo, JP moved to San Francisco and rejoined Chad Mitchell in a weekly residency at the legendary dj bar Liquid.

In the mid 2000s Roam Recordings had taken a pause but is now back with a slew of new releases. JP Soul’s release, Backsliding, with a remix by Q-Burns Abstract Message is about to hit vinyl this spring 2013 followed by a release from Codebase and LTJ XPerience.
