Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) to Honor Five
Who Have Made a Difference in Children’s Lives
Seaside, California, September 27, 2014 – Saturday, September 27th, Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) will be celebrating their “Honoring Those Who Honor Youth” awards dinner.
CPY will honor: Alfred Avila, Seaside Coach and Teacher – being highlighted for the amazing job he does instilling values into his students; David Appleby, amazing science teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Seaside, mentor to young teachers and a Science Club leader at CPY’s Summer Intersession; Bob Brunson is the Behavioral Health Services Manager with the County of Monterey's Department of Health – who’s passion is to emphasize the importance of raising emotionally healthy children to reduce youth joining gangs; Kristan Lundquist, Salinas Community Services Manager who knows first-hand that creating a safe environment for kids is paramount to reducing gang involvement through her work with the city's five neighborhood centers, and Stephen Vagnini, Chapter President at Guitars Not Guns an organization to help prevent violence on the street by providing youth with focus and self-actualization.
“When the community rallied twenty four years ago in response to the tragic death of Seaside football star Ramon Avila, I doubt anyone could have envisioned the remarkable program we have today. CPY served over 570 students last school year at five locations in Seaside and Salinas. “We would not be where we are today were it not for the selfless support we have received from so many people, including those being honored,” states Executive Director Shari Hastey.
The dinner is open to the public and will be held September 27th at the Monterey Marriott, 350 Calle Principal, Monterey at 6:30 pm. Individual tickets ($95.00) as well as designated tables are available by calling the CPY office at (831) 394-4279.
