Home Away from Home: Little Palestine by the Bay

SEE EVENT DETAILS
RayKo Photo Center is honored to present the first exhibition of Najib Joe Hakim's new project, Home Away from Home: Little Palestine by the Bay. The second largest community of Palestinians in the United States calls the San Francisco Bay Area home. But what does it mean to be a Palestinian in America? How do Palestinian Americans maintain their ties to a seemingly unreachable homeland while grappling with life in a country whose political culture is so profoundly hostile to their core aspirations and identity? Home Away from Home provides a platform for the participants to share their personal experiences. It is a multi-media project juxtaposing excerpts from the audio interviews with B&W portraits. Please join Hakim and other members of this wonderful community on October 30th to learn about their experiences living away from home.
Supported in part by the San Francisco Arts Commission Cultural Equity Grants Program through an Individual Artist Commission and by a grant from the Arab Fund for Arts & Culture.
