“History of Wine”

Join University of the Pacific’s Food Studies for the “History of Wine” on Saturday, May 2 at 5 p.m. Professor Ken Albala will discuss the origins of wine, some of the rituals and celebrations associated with it, and the psychology and business of wine in the modern wine industry. In addition, he will talk about the new Master of Arts or Certificate in Food Studies—a program that will focus on the ways in which people have grown, prepared and profited from food through history and across cultures. It is free and open to the public.

Program director, Ken Albala, is a renowned food historian and professor of history at Pacific, as well as the author or editor of 22 scholarly and popular books on food. His books include: Eating Right in the Renaissance, Food in Early Modern Europe, Cooking in Europe 1250-1650, The Banquet, and Beans (winner of the 2008 IACP Jane Grigson Award).
