HellaCon will take place June 13th-14th at The New Parkway in Oakland, California. The weekend will provide a full lineup of music, film and panels, while closing the weekend with theHellaShort Film Festival. HellaCon will provide a place for the community to celebrate musicians, artists, filmmakers and their work and allow attendees to interact. The New Parkway will play host to all that HellaCon has to offer.

As previously announced HellaCon will kickoff the weekend with musical guest: Conspiracy of Venus. Conspiracy of Venus is a 30 woman vocal ensemble based in San Francisco, California that explores the creative frontier of music under the artistic direction of Joyce Todd McBride. Added to the music lineup is the psychedelic space-funk collective from San Francisco, El Metate and indie folk rock band based in Berkeley, California, Baby Teeth, whose sounds will provide pop friendly melodies and dark swing inspired compositions.

The list of speakers this year at HellaCon includes Bitch Media online editor Sarah Mirk. Sarah will be the headlining speaker for the program: Five Bright Ideas in Feminist Media. Sarah will walk the audience through five concrete ideas in current feminist media, illustrating these ideas with powerful art and activist projects groups have created in the United States in the past few years. While there is lots of discussion about the death of journalism, this talk shows that journalism and feminist conversations these days are dynamic and very much alive.An Independent Filmmaking Case Study: Featuring the cast and crew of Butterfly Caught; Representation of Nerds on TV hosted by After Buzz TV’s, Yael Tygiel; Talkies, a multimedia/kitchen -sink format comedy show; Making an Independent Animated Short, a discussion with Osci Eight films founder and creative director Claire Williams; Watching Movies: How to Watch Movies, a session with Jesse Hawthorne Ficks; How to Create a Successful Youtube Channel: A Look at The Youtube Creator Playbook, hosted by the Rich Alvarez Youtube team; The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time, clips and q&a with director Jeff Von Ward.
