Hosted by JAY RICH

As a comedian, his witty stories and one liners will have you literally falling out of your seats and holding your sides every time he steps up to the mic. As a poet, his ability to weave a tale of truths in such a way to keep you captivated and empathetic simultaneously puts him in a category comprised of few.

STARRING:

AMIR SULAIMAN

Amir Sulaiman is a poet, recording artist, activist and newly appointed Harvard Fellow, born in Rochester, New York. His poems cross subjects of love, tragedy as well as what it means to reconcile humanity with the unprecedented trials of modernity. He has performed his works across the US as well as many other countries including England, Belgium, Senegal, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Australia, Iran and the Netherlands, and continues to tour world-wide. His recently published book of poetry, Love, Gnosis & Other Suicide Attempts met with critical acclaim, in addition to his latest album "The Opening," the third in a unique trilogy project, following "The Meccan Openings" (2011) and "The Medinan Openings" (2012). Amir was first introduced to a National audience in 2005 when he was featured for two seasons on Russell Simmons' groundbreaking series Def Poetry Jam on HBO.

BRIAN KING JOSEPH

Brian Joseph is a tour de force when it comes to music. As a violinist he's a virtuoso whose skill and talent have gifted fans across the globe with the most mesmerizing music since prodigy David Garrett hit the scene! Brian Joseph opens the door to a new era in music with his electric violin compositions that evoke an emotional range in listeners that lingers in their hearts long after the last note has drifted away. In the words of this phenomenal yet humble violinist-- Enjoy, Share and Vibe On!

ED MABREY

Ed Mabrey is the only 3 time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion. He tours the country professionally as a poet, comedian, and motivational speaker, and was a speaker at the 2015 TEDxDayton. An Emmy winner, Ed has been on Seasons 3 & 5 of Verses and Flow (TV One), ABC, FOX, HBO All Def Digital, Write About Now Poetry. He's performed at over 100 colleges and universities around the country, teaching workshops and conducting seminars. On the comedy front, Ed has opened for DL Hughley, Ian Bagg, Rob Schneider, Roy Wood Jr., Charlie Murphy and many more. Ed is a two time finalist in The World Series Of Comedy, held in Las Vegas and he's been the voice of companies ranging from the Ohio State Medical Center to Lexus.

JAVON JOHNSON

Merging race and gender theory with comedy, lyricism, and rhyme schemes, Javon has become a very awarded spoken word/slam poet. Javon began writing in 2001, winning slam nationals in 2003 (team Los Angeles), in 2004 (team Hollywood), in 2005 he placed 3rd (one of a handful of poets to make finals three years in a row), and returning to slam after a brief hiatus, Javon placed 5th in 2011, 4th in 2012, and 2nd in 2013 (team Hollywood). Javon has appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, BET’s Lyric Café, TVOnes Verses & Flow, and co-wrote a documentary titled Crossover, which aired on Showtime, in collaboration with the NBA and Nike. Currently on a national tour with Fiveology, a collective of spoken word poets, Javon is simultaneously a featured blogger for the Huffington Post, and currently serves on the Board of Say Word, an organization that mentors teenagers and promotes creative self-expression through spoken word poetry in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times said, “From subject matter, to wordplay to delivery, he is working it out! It's hard not to have good times while watching him have a good time on stage.”

JOSHUA MERCHANT

Joshua Merchant is a writer, and native of East Oakland. Combining a masterful eye for detail, startling vulnerability, and unflinching courage, Joshua explores queer issues, black identity, and the complexities of their intersection. His writing has brought him the honor and privilege to perform alongside artists and activists such as Chuck D, MC Lyte, Angela Davis, Michael Poland, and Saul Williams. He continues to perform and work with youth in his community and across the country.

LUKE TAILOR

Already earning attention from artists like Talib Kweli and MC Supernatural, 22 years old and already drawing comparisons to artists like Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Common, Luke Tailor is the current generation's redefinition of poetic emcee.

PRENTICE POWELL

With humility uncommon to those of like talent, Prentice Powell approaches every stage from Amsterdam to London and South Africa, knowing that he has a gift, yet allowing his performance to speak for itself. His spoken and written talent is notable, considering that both adequately communicate the depth of his consciousness in rhyme. As a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he embodies the mentality of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the desire to uplift humanity, all in the midst of continuing to define himself.
