Haunted Hoedown IV

SEE EVENT DETAILS
SF locals Rin Tin Tiger are back with the 4th Annual Haunted Hoedown, a Halloween party and live music show for the ages! Joined this year by SF indie-darlings Vandella and the up-and-coming Moxie Kids, it's a night of rock, Americana, costumes and spooky tradition. Come see what the fuss is about before these 3 local acts hit the big time.

Rin Tin Tiger
Kevin Sullivan, Sean E. Sullivan, Andrew Skewes-Cox
High energy, lyric heavy, acoustic guitar lead songs about life in contemporary society. The sound is often described as a blend between early Bob Dylan, Violent Femmes, and Tupac.
Rin Tin Tiger is an indie folk band from San Francisco, CA, formerly known as Westwood & Willow. Comprised of brothers Kevin (songwriting, vocals, guitar) and Sean E. (bass, vocals) Sullivan, with Andrew Skewes-Cox on drums and additional vocals. The music carries an emphasis on lyrics, organic musicianship, and raw energy, showing traces of Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Tupac and Morrissey while retaining a sound that is contemporary in an electronic-drenched world. They have spread their sound across the bay area and beyond from small cafes and art spaces to renowned venues like Bottom of the Hill (where they had their album release and later opened for folk legend Michael Hurley and for Max Bemis during Noise Pop 2011). Their full length album, released under the name Westwood & Willow in July 2010 was recorded entirely on their own and only mastered and duplicated by other hands. All songs, lyrics, artwork, and layout were done by Sean and Kevin, showing testament to the spirit of the modern independent artist.

Vandella:
In the best kind of way, Vandella can be a tough band to pin down. Hailing from San Francisco, their music takes listeners from the gulches of swampy, guitar-driven rock and the dusty twang of Americana to the amber honey of classic soul. A raucously energetic live show mixed with their own distinct roots-rock sound gives Vandella their swagger; with the soulful, sometimes Joplin-esque chops on lead singer Tracey Holland setting them decidedly apart.
In their three years together, the close-knit foursome have come a long way with old-fashioned hard work and hustle: Their 2009 debut, V, saw the band move 2,000 copies independently, earning them bills at San Francisco staples such as Great American Music Hall, Bottom of the Hill, Café Du Nord, and Rickshaw Stop. With several West Coast tours completed, they released the full-length Fire in the Desert in May 2012.
The band is poised for their third release- a vinyl ET, Shine You Up, on October 1st, 2013. Produced by Scott McDowell (Geographer, Stone Foxes, Ty Segall, California Honeydrops) at Hyde Street Studios in SF, Shine You Up is a throwback to the raw, spirited authenticity of 70’s-era rock & roll, a la the Stones’ Exile on Main Street. The result is an eclectic mix of classic sounds with a modern, indie twist, making it fresh yet somehow familiar.

Moxie Kids:
The Moxie Kids are an indie rock duo based in San Francisco. Childhood friends, Chris Carmichael and Kyle Albery met in the summer of 1987 in a small town outside of Detroit Michigan, Sylvan Lake. The two began writing music together on at the age of 11 and have been creating and performing ever since.

During high school and college Chris and Kyle played in rock bands in and around Detroit as well as Kalamazoo, their home throughout college. After moving to California in 2009, the two could be seen as the rhythm section in San Francisco based indie rock band, Please Do Not Fight.
