11 Great Places to Watch the Giants in the World Series

San Francisco bars are readying for big crowds as the Giants return to the World Series for the third time in five years. The series starts Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 5pm in Kansas City with another game to follow on Wednesday at 5pm before the Giants return home for three games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 5pm. Below are a few of our favorite San Francisco bars to watch the World Series.

Public House
24 WILLIE MAYS PLAZA
Located at AT&T Park, fans can channel the spirit and energy of Giants home games at Public House while the team plays in Kansas City. There are TVs everywhere at this spacious bar with 24 beers on tap, 24 bottled beers and a full bar. Plus, local chef Traci des Jardins runs the kitchen with ingredients sourced from local businesses such as 4505 Meats.

Public Viewing at Civic Center
CIVIC CENTER
UPDATE: A public viewing of Game 6 is scheduled at Civic Center, with first pitch starting at 5:07pm. The MLB prohibited public viewings while the Giants were playing in San Francisco, according to Mayor Ed Lee’s office.

Amante
570 GREEN STREET
Almost every bar in North Beach will have a good crowd for the World Series, but Amante stands out with a handful of well-positioned TVs accompanied by tasty offerings from Chubby Noodle. It’s hard to beat this bar food. The fried chicken strips are some of the best in the city. Other options include Korean pork tacos, spicy wontons and kung pao chicken wings.

Kezar Pub
770 STANYAN STREET
Kezar Pub is an old-school San Francisco sports bar with a long history in the Upper Haight. Located across the street from the former home of the 49ers, Kezar Stadium, expect big and loud crowds for every game. Drinks include 22 draft beers, 16 bottled beers and a full bar. The chicken wings are a menu favorite.

Blackthorn Tavern
834 IRVING STREET (BETWEEN 9TH AND 10TH AVENUES)
This Inner Sunset bar has long been a favorite spot for sports fans and a gathering place for Giants die hards on the west side. There are more than 30 beers on tap and several nearby options for food.

Buckshot
3848 GEARY BLVD.
Buckshot offers skee ball, shuffle board and other games for easily distracted Giants fans and bandwagon buddies. Food includes classic pub grub with a few standouts, including chicken fried bacon, garlic fries and the Bomb Buckshot Mac n’ Cheese.

Hi Tops
2247 MARKET STREET
Decorated with a 1970s high school gym theme with playful references to locker rooms and masculinity, Hi Tops in the Castro offers a full menu of bar snacks, ranging from fried-chicken sandwiches and corn dogs to buffalo wings (25 cents on Mondays) and warm pretzels.

Valley Tavern
4054 24TH STREET
One of the last bastions of old-school San Francisco along the 24th Street corridor in Noe Valley, the Valley Tavern has 39 beers on tap, spicy Blood Mary’s with pepper vodka and great bartenders ready to pour a victory drink.

The Phoenix Bar & Irish Gathering House
811 VALENCIA STREET
The Mission is full of bars that will have will have TVs with the World Series, but very few regularly cater to sports crowds. Located in the heart of the Mission District, the Phoenix is the exception. Nine large HD flat screen TVs are located throughout the bar. Bloody Mary’s are popular and the kitchen is open until 1am for late-night celebrations.

Wreck Room
1390 CALIFORNIA STREET
The Wreck Room is a spacious hub for sports on lower Nob Hill with 12 beers on tap, a full bar and a variety of bar sports—darts, shuffle board, pool, hoops and more. 10 Flat Screen TVs provide a good vantage point from every seat in the house.

Double Play Bar & Grill
2401 16TH STREET
Giants memorabilia covers the walls here to help set the mood on game day. The family-owned sports bar and grill features eight TVs, including a 61-inch big screen TV, with 15 beers on tap, 24 bottled beers and full bar. There is also a menu with seafood, steak and other dishes.

    What happened with the BIG SCREEN at Civic Center?

    1. We’re waiting on details from City Hall, but it’s likely that there will at least be public viewings for the weekend games.

        1. We just confirmed with the Mayor’s office. Apparently MLB policy prohibits public viewings while the Giants are playing in San Francisco.
