420-Friendly Activities in San Francisco

The classic stoner cliche is a dude sitting on a couch in the dark staring flickering TV, in amazement. We won’t deny that the occasional marijuana-enhanced TV binge can make for the perfect evening, but there are also numerous activities around San Francisco for those who enjoy getting out of the house after passing the dubbie. Here are a few of our favorites.

Concerts & Clubs
VARIOUS LOCATIONS
For those who like the night life, there will be numerous 420-friendly concerts and parties. Be it taking in a show at a smaller venue, dancing the night away, or even rockin’ a concert, be sure to check the SF Station calendar to find the right event to match your mood.

Disc Golf
MARX MEADOW, GOLDEN GATE PARK
Golden Gate park has a lot to offer, including an excellent 18-hole disc golf course. For the uninitiated, disc golf is played with specialized discs—many players carry a bag of them, just like golfers—with rules remaining relatively similar to regular golf. The course is right off Marx Meadow hidden behind the park’s numerous hills and trees. It’s a leisurely sport, and one that lends itself well to the weekend toker.

The Castro Theatre
429 CASTRO STREET
Of course a movie is a great activity for anyone getting baked, but The Castro Theatre is no ordinary movie house. Opened in 1922, it retains that early 20th century charm and has kept up the tradition of the times. Featuring a gorgeous large screen and beautiful murals, it’s greatest asset may be the pre-show organist that rises out of the stage to greet moviegoers with a bouncy soundtrack as they shuffle to their seats. Rarely showing new films, The Castro will show some recently released films but it’s known for its back cataloge of double features. To sum it up, it’s a stoner’s paradise.

Dolores Park
DOLORES PARK, MISSION DISTRICT
On a nice day, Dolores Park is almost always heavily populated with people laying out, having a picnic and toking up. A number of “green” edible vendors are also known to push their carts around the park, selling their products to anyone who wants a taste.

California Academy of Sciences
55 MUSIC CONCOURSE DRIVE
Another local gem hidden within Golden Gate Park, California Academy of Sciences offers a plethora of scientific activities, including a sample rainforest housing live butterflies, a giant aquarium housing an abundance sea life and an albino alligator. For many under the influence, however, it’s probably the planetarium that will be of the most interest. Not only is it the largest all-digital planetarium in the world, but it’s always showing stunning shows that are literally over your head.

The Haight
HAIGHT STREET
The Haight has changed a lot since its hippy heyday in in the 60s, but it remains an international attraction for 420-friendly visitors. Even for locals, there are plenty of options to spend a day cruising the strip. Amoeba Records, numerous head shops and some of San Francisco’s best shoe stores are on Upper Haight. The Lower Haight offers a less touristy option with boutique record shops, bars (Tornado is one of the best beer bars in town) and restaurants (You can’t go wrong with Angry Korean Wings from Wing Wings).
