Description

Green Sneakers is a personal and intimate composition by Ricky Ian Gordon, written as he searched for solace from grief after losing his partner, Jeffrey Grossi, to AIDS, and following their last few months together. Green Sneakers is a theatrical song cycle for baritone and string quartet and represents Gordon's first string quartet piece. Hailed as “a triumph,” ”superb mini-opera,” and “a masterpiece” by Opera Today, American Record Guide, and others, every live performance of the piece becomes a cathartic experience and leaves the audience transformed and uplifted.

Thia production stars baritone Jesse Blumberg and the acclaimed Del Sol String Quartet. Del Sol String Quartet, the San Francisco-based two-time winner of the top Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, is breaking the boundaries of classical music in riveting performances of new music with a global pulse. Recently having celebrated their 20th anniversary, they are considered one of the leading quartets in the world performing contemporary music.
