Goorin Bros., the fourth-generation, family-owned, San Francisco-based company of bold hatmakers, is proud to be a partner for this year’s Negroni Week. To celebrate, on Thursday, June 9th, we’ll be hosting an in-shop event featuring Negronis poured up special by a resident bartender, nibbles, and live music. For one night only, we’ll be outfitting our lucky customers with premium red feathers as an homage to history and traditions past. With the purchase of a fedora, we’ll add a complimentary red feather. Even more – for each smashing fedora and red feather combo, we’ll donate 5% of the total sale to the American Red Cross.
As if that wasn’t enough, author and cocktail historian Duggan McDonnell will be at our shop for a live reading of his book, “Drinking the Devil’s Acre: A Love Letter From San Francisco & Her Cocktails,” which promises to take you on a whirlwind tour of the city’s rich history of delightful libations.
During the Great Depression of the 1930s, many Americans couldn’t provide food or clothes for themselves, and relied on non-profit organizations such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army for daily sustenance. Those who were financially able to donate money or items to non-profits were given a red hat feather as a token of gratitude, which people wore proudly and with honor. Over time, the red feather has lost its significance, so we’re doing our part to bring the tradition back again, alive and better than ever! It’s sure to be a night of fashion and fun that you won’t want to miss.
