Join celebrity and fashion photographers Ricky McGill and Henry Navarro for a trip back to Old Hollywood photography sessions. The portrait and pinup photos were the selling card of all actors back then. Now's your chance to have one for yourself! On Sundays, January 29th and February 5th, in collaboration with salon and day spa Atelier Emmanuel, McGill and Navarro offer the complete package for their clients: hair, makeup, outfits, and a photoshoot to capture the glamorous you.

Glamour Photography
The quick paced, low resolution photo taking we all love with our smartphones has its place. It has wit and captures day to day stuff well. But there's a timeless quality to glamour shots, like stars used to get in Old Hollywood. Photography with mood — strong lighting and lush shadows; shots taken with care and time, to get depth from the model. They were called “glamour shots” for a reason, after all: the mysterious essence of the star was captured. Smartphone pics tell a good joke; classic glamour shots told a story.
Ricky McGill and Henry Navarro, have been paying tribute to this classic style of photography in their recently opened studio. Their main inspiration is the work of George Hurrell, the leading Hollywood photographer of his time. He defined the glamour shot which is so familiar to us now. Think of Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth or Humphrey Bogart and you are likely visualizing one of Hurrell's portraits of these stars.


Reserve Your Shot at Hollywood
McGill and Navarro wanted to create an opportunity for the general public to experience what these old Hollywood photoshoots were like. In collaboration with upscale salon Atelier Emmanuel, they have set up two days for you to reserve a professional photo session. You get to be behind the scenes for once! How many of us have ever participated in a photoshoot? We pay close attention to celebrities; wouldn't it be nice to be one for a moment?
The idea of this photoshoot is to take a break and get pampered. Your hour long session includes hair and makeup services, fashions, followed by the photo session.
It's no coincidence that this photoshoot is timed in advance of Valentine's Day. Ricky McGill notes that many like to have special photos done to give their partner as a gift. Or, you can arrange for your partner to take part!

A Friendly and Professional Staff in a New Studio
The black and white photoshoot will take place in the new 435 Studio, located at 435 Harriet Street in San Francisco.
The studio is new, but the team involved is experienced:
Ricky McGill, who has been professional photographer for over three decades, recently settled in San Francisco. As a contributing photographer for the Everett Collection, he has had the opportunity to photograph some of Hollywood’s most well-known celebrities and some of the most recognized music moguls in the industry.
Henry Navarro began as a professional photographer in 2008 and soon began to focus on fashion photography. Navarro was nominated for Best Fashion Photographer for the Bay Area Fashion Awards in 2010, and for Best Videographer for the San Francisco Fashion Awards in 2011. He works with numerous agency representing models, including Ford, Scout, Cast & JE.
For over 10 years, Atelier Emmanuel has been providing hair and day spa services to the bay area community. Under the direction of master stylist Emmanuel Noel, the stylists regularly participate in professional events. They have previously partnered with Look Model Agency, San Francisco Fashion Alliance & Merchants Association (SFFAMA), San Francisco Magazine, and Today’s Bride.
