About Girls on the Run:
Girls on the Run of the Bay Area provides a healthy living fitness and education program for girls in 3rd through 5th grade, designed to encourage better life habits and build self esteem. Our programs run twice a week for ten weeks each season and combine athletic workouts with uplifting lessons that encourage emotional, social, mental and physical development. This opportunity is a true life-changing experience for our girls. Since 2002 we have grown from 5 girls at one site to serving over 2000 girls this school year. This school year, we will offer more than 120 programs in the following local communities: San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Marin. At least 85% of the girls in our program receive financial support to participate in Girls on the Run.
About The 5K:
The Girls on the Run 5K will be held on Sunday, December 9th, 2018 at Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Approximately 2,000 participants join together at this 5K, which is the culmination of another successful season of our after-school running and healthy lifestyle programs for Bay Area girls. In addition to the 1000 program participants and 700 volunteers, the event attracts hundreds of families throughout the Bay Area who may or may not be involved with the Girls on the Run programs.
