The annual tribute to the stinking rose just turned 30 and is as redolent as ever. The three-day nonprofit event at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, the world’s garlic capital, is as hot as the late-July weather. Hungry hordes descend on the festival every year to hear live music and sample near-infinite culinary applications of the miracle bulb along Gourmet Alley.

130 tons of pasta
79 tons of scampi
59 tons of calamari
and 78 tons of fresh California garlic!
