Loud, raucous, and with a little flair for the cinematic, Ghoul has become known for their impressive live show as well as their air of mystery. The Ghoul cast of characters are well-named: Cremator, Digestor, Dissector, and Fermentor. And they all wear masks to hide their identities (though rumor has it the band members are affiliated with other metal greats like Wolves in the Throne Room and Impaled). The masked musicians don't let a little mystery come between them and the heavy music -- ripping solos like there's no tomorrow at one moment, and weaving an intricate, even delicate, intro the next. Despite being thrashy metal, the vein of punk rock that runs deeply through these very creative guys can't be ignored. They simply put on a good show -- or not so simply, when you take into account the masks, blood, and staging (one tour saw them toting along a giant robot named Killbot to dance in the background). They've opened for Gwar, that should tell you something! Grindcore yowls, terrifyingly good riffs, yelping backing vocals, thrash staples like blasting drums, immaculate bass, and horror imagery all swirl into a satisfyingly loud, overwhelmingly metal (no matter how much people argue over the subgenre) sound. Seeing these mutants from Creepsylvania will only make your life better.
