Garden Party at Bay Natives nursery
Experience live music, free locally sourced food & drink, a free plant & general Take Back the City vibes, on Saturday, October 8th, noon to 5pm. Counter the drought, learn about sustainable living, feed the goats, meet the roosters, bring your kids, and start a garden. Fall is the start of planting season for drought-resistant native plants, and every Second Saturday Afternoon the celebration continues. Our urban oasis has the best native plant selection in the City. At 10 Cargo Way, at the end of Cesar Chavez, minutes from the Mission District.
This is your access to an interactive environmental experience. Permaculture, gardening, beekeeping, xylophones, robots, chickens and goats; Bay Natives has it all. We offer free-range eggs at the counter, from the chickens at your ankles, and a fine locally sourced cup of coffee to anybody who asks. Add a cool native plant of which you may never have known.
At the wild location at Cargo Way, next to coastal Heron’s Head Park and SF environmental education showcase EcoCenter, this corner of Dogpatch, in the rapidly changing Bayview District, is geared almost exclusively to sustainable environments.
'The New Bay Natives has collaborators', says Paul Furman, landscape architect, owner and founder. Indeed, Bay Natives is assembling a community of like-minded nature lovers, all working in the haven Furman meticulously designed, from the vast nursery of native plants to an elaborate chicken run.
Furman's philosophy: 'Nature is not some separate thing that you have to go up to Yosemite to see. You can bring it into your backyard, you can make it part of your life. A hummingbird arrives because of the native plant that you purchase, and you realize- -Hey, there's a hummingbird in my life. This is how it's supposed to be.'
