A charming gallery that specializes in contemporary landscape painters from the Monterey Peninsula who are carrying the plein-aire landscape painting traditions of the early California impressionists into the 21st century. This group of contemporary painters, known as Informalists, interpret the beauty of the natural landscape in an impressionistic and expressionistic style.
As plein-air painters, they work on location to quickly capture the fleeting light effects that occur in nature. Painting in this manner, rather than from photographs, gives their artwork a quality of being truthful to nature and conveys an atmosphere and feeling of a place that is not achievable by any other means.
The gallery offers workshops in pleine-aire painting and features the work of artists Barry John Raybould, Jeff Daniel Smith, Cyndra Bradford, Richmond Woodson, Mark Farina, Gerard Martin, Richmond P. Woodson and Johnny Apodaca. They are open daily 11am to 5pm; closed Tuesdays.
