Over the last few years, The Parlor has become one of San Francisco’s nightlife highlights. Partly due to its “Saloon Room” aesthetic, it’s one of the few venues in the city that delivers that good, old-fashioned party feeling.
The timeless design resembles that of the early 1900s, making it feel like a place where you can’t help but have a good time. It’s because of it’s lighthearted atmosphere that we decided to team up with The Parlor to throw FunBox, every third Saturday. Simply put, it’s the perfect venue for an event that’s pure, unadulterated fun.
Bringing the best DJs from across the country, FunBox is an event designed for one reason—to let loose and just enjoy good music with good people.
For this installment of FunBox Saturdays, we’re bringing West Coast favorite DJ As-Is to the decks, alongside Essential resident DJ SteelE and one of a kind lighting by EPIC Productions!
As-Is got his start behind the turntables at 16 years old. At first, the scratch was his main focus and he worked day and night to learn and perfect every facet of the art from scratching, drumming, and beat juggling, all the while spending equal amounts of time in record shops around the Bay Area. As the years progressed, so did his musical tastes which began to encompass more styles. In turn, his collection grew with his skill set.
As-Is has a very energetic and exciting way of bringing songs together with just the right amount of turntablism, creativity, and a style that is uniquely his own. When you see and hear As-Is live, you’ll swear he’s nodding his head harder than anyone in the place…until you wake up the next day with a sore neck and a smile.
