HOTEL GARUDA

Hotel Garuda consists of Manila Killa and Candle Weather, who met in middle school in Indonesia. Drawing influences from the likes of Thomas Jack, Bakermat, Cashmere Cat, Lil B, and Julius Jetson, just to name a few, the group has found success in creating a unique house sound that many are enjoying. Named as one of the top 10 artists to watch in 2014 by Ultra, 11,000 likes on Facebook, over 900,000 plays on SoundCloud, and a #1 slot on The Hype Machine to call their own in just three months of its existence, Hotel Garuda is only getting started.

JULIA LEWIS

Julia Lewis, of San Francisco, isn't just another rising star in the ambient analogue game. He is, as theory would dictate, a man who genuinely loves to make music using tools and instruments of musical lore. Rare these days, as most instruments have been replaced by intricate MIDI controllers and cost-cutting VST programs. Regardless of how much "Analogue" or "Randomization" you add to your VST, nothing beats the good ol' sounds of a warm ever-changing circuit board (cue similar argument to Vinyl vs. CD vs. MP3 vs. my left foot). With only Ableton live, a Prophet 08, a Roland SH-101, and an MPD32 at his disposal, Lewis recounts, "I'm aiming for a mix of both analog sound and digital processing that's future-facing but still has some unpredictability."

Rolling deep with a thoroughly artistic crew, Lewis is nothing short of a classically-trained creative genius. He has the eye, the ear, and the sense of style needed to propel the music industry into the next wave of vogue video and contemporary audio. While most artists are afraid to break boundaries for fear of poor reception or audience dismissal, well-rounded artists like Lewis know that "boundaries" is just a word to legitimize the comfort of the here and now. From "Séance Pt. 1 & 2" to his Lumidee bootleg, Lewis has already broken ground as a game-changer in the experimental world.

Without going into too much detail, we'll let you take a listen to his latest tune, "My First Love", above and watch the video below. A video which, by the way, absolutely blows my mind. The timing, the color palette, and even the ending are so masterfully done. It's amazing to think the production crew is just a small team out in LA, the SnowBeach Collective. Between Julia Lewis and SnowBeach, we're happy to report that ambient music is on the rise and cinematic ingenuity has finally caught some traction. Cheers to that, ya?
