After taking 2013 off from performing, singer/songwriter Fred Torphy returned to the stage in March 2014, performing alongside his old bandmates from Big Light at a North Bay fundraiser at Terrapin Crossroads. Since that fateful night, Torphy has re-emerged with a boatload of new songs, performing both solo, and with rotating cast of players culled from some of the Bay's best and brightest bands. With sets in the summer of 2014 at BottleRock, The High Sierra Music Festival, as well as recent club shows at the Chapel and Brick & Mortar, Torphy has been busy re-establishing himself as an original voice in the Bay area rock scene.
In January 2015 Torphy unveiled a new band at his Doc's Lab 'Tuesday's Spirits' residency. Featuring drummer Cochrane McMilan (Tea Leaf Green), bassist Eric DiBeradino (Go By Ocean) and veteran guitarist Dave O'Dell, the new band plays a mix of new and old originals, in addition to left-field covers by artists such as Mazzy Star and Warren Zevon. Bay Area music fans can look forward to more from Torphy and his bandmates as they continue their residency and debut more new music as 2015 unfolds.
