FOURTH ANNUAL CALIFORNIA ROOTS MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL BRINGS THREE DAYS of POSITIVE, FEEL- GOOD VIBES, with an EXPLOSIVE REGGAE-ROCK LINE-UP for the 2013 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, MAY 24-26 at the HISTORIC MONTEREY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS in MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA.

The California Roots Music and Arts Festival Line-up is Bringing Together the Biggest Names in Reggae-Rock Today. Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, Matisyahu, The Expendables, The Dirty Heads and Collie Buddz w/New Kingston Are Among The Forty-Five Biggest in the Genre Acts Scheduled To Perform.

Reggae-Rock fans from all points on the map will descend on Monterey, CA this Memorial Day Weekend to experience the biggest Reggae Rock festival of its kind. The Fourth Annual California Roots Music & Arts Festival is not just a Reggae-Rock concert; it’s an experience all to itself, with a vibe of unity and freedom guided by three-days of non-stop music, art and culture.

In just three short years, festival creator Jeff Monser, his partner Dan Sheehan and staff have crafted the festival into a lifestyle brand of positive vibes and good times, with good people. “It’s about creating community, with like-minded music lovers from around the world, and what better place to do it than in the Monterey Bay,” said Monser.

Of course, Cal-Roots isn’t just about great music, great food, camping and camaraderie. It’s about building a community of musicians, artists and fans who spend one weekend a year celebrating each other, sharing a communal good will and positive vibes channeled through the crowd-moving music pumping through festival’s massive sound system.

And who better to guide vibe than the headlining acts for each night. Each headliner boasts a large national fan base and star power that is sure to shine on stage, a testament to the festival’s growth and influence.

On Friday, May 24, Santa Barbara reggae powerhouse Rebelution headlines; following their early 2012 release of their Top-20 Billboard charts album “Peace of Mind,” the band hit the road for most of the year, first in support of the album, then for a summer tour with O.A.R.

On Saturday evening, So-Cal reggae rock pioneers Slightly Stoopid will rock the house and is a perfect fit for the Cal-Roots audience. Originally signed to Skunk Records, the label founded by Sublime leader the late Bradley Nowell, Slightly Stoopid were on the forefront of the reggae rock scene. Now in the midst of its third decade as a national touring band, the group’s popularity is stronger than ever, evidenced by consistent sold-out tour dates. Slightly Stoopid’s appearance at Cal-Roots is a testament to the festival’s status and ability to attract the biggest names in the reggae rock genre.
Closing down the spot on Sunday night is Matisyahu. Constantly evolving as an artist and musician, the spiritual singer/songwriter has revamped his image from a Hasidic Jew to a more toned down look. It is Matisyahu’s musical growth that will resonate with Cal-Roots fans. Just as the festival has expanded in size and scope, Matisyahu’s sound has rapidly grown, along with his following. His performance at the festival should carry a buzz right up to the opening number.

The complete festival line-up is an all-star cast and also features brash veterans/Santa Cruz O.G.’s The Expendables, the blissful tones of The Dirty Heads, ultra-cool Collie Buddz, San Diego irie-ites Tribal Seeds, Hawaiian scene-shakers The Green, New Zealand roots-radicals Katchafire, reggae royalty Don Carlos, Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds, Rootz Underground, Ballyhoo!, Natural Vibrations, Pacific Dub, Stick Figure, Seedless, and well… that’s not even half the lineup!
