Foothill College Student-Directed One-Act Play Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Students enrolled in the Foothill College Theatre Arts Program present "Orchards," six one-act plays inspired by the short stories of Anton Chekhov, March 19–22 in the Lohman Theatre at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

Performances are Thursday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, March 20–21, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m.

"The one-act festival is a tradition at Foothill College," says Foothill Theatre Arts Instructor Janis Bergmann, M.F.A. "It's the perfect vehicle for the theatre student who is learning the rigors and demands of producing for an audience. Each of the show's acts provides challenging, well-rounded roles for student-actors, as well as complete, well-structured plays for student-directors."

About the plays:
• "The Man in a Case," written by Wendy Wasserstein and directed by Sarah Weiler, chronicles the attempts of an authoritarian schoolmaster to tame his wild and carefree fiancée, as she joyously breaks all the rules of propriety in their quiet 1800’s Russian village. The play features Bimas Gharti Chhetry and Annie Trevison.
• "Vint," written by David Mamet and directed by Alex Ortiz, follows a group of mischievous Russian government clerks as they create an original twist on a popular card game called Vint…until they're caught. The play features Seamus O'Connell, John Pollio, Ruslan Mavlanov, Yuriy Kuvshynov, Kadir Yenidogan and Ian Milton.
• Written by Maria Irene Fornes and directed by Sam Nachison, "Drowning" gives audiences a look at the fragility of the human psyche, and how the cruelty of the world affects the innocent. A story about three deformed humans, "Drowning" profiles the struggle that Pea, the most innocent one, faces with the brutality of the outside world. The play features David Kirk, Sam Talakai and Stony Tan.
• "The Talking Dog," written by John Guare and directed by Kelsey Snider, focuses on a couple as they take the thrilling leap off a mountain to hang-glide, only to find the true confrontation of their fears is the leap into love. The play features Sarah Hammer, Davied Morales, Kadir Yenidogan and John Pollio.
• Written by Samm-Art Williams and directed by Remi Ferguson, "Eve of The Trial" introduces audiences to a Russian refugee prisoner, along with his two wives, all of whom unwittingly spend the night in the same backwater Louisiana rooming house with the hanging judge he'll face in the morning. As he bares all in his doomsday desperation, he has no idea that the trial may have already begun. The play features Patrick Ross, Marley Westley, Frederic Lagerblad, Brittany Pisoni, Giovanni Maciel, Tyler Jeffreys and Tara Harte-Rodriguez.
• "A Dopey Fairy Tale," written by Michael Weller and directed by Kaz Tarsish, is a twist on a classic fairy tale. A young boy and his dog go on a magical journey to recover his lost talent. Along the way, they meet a cast of colorful characters, from ministers to talking frogs, and a very, very sad princess. The play features Cesar Mendoza, Daniel Hogan, Andrea Icaza, Jesse Grimes, Kyle Reyes, Seamus O'Connell, Dexter Lim, Ian Milton, Stony Tan, Davied Morales, Tara Harte-Rodriguez and Cassandra Grilley.
