John Nelson
Flowered
February 4 – March 13, 2015
Opening Reception: Wednesday, February 4, 5:30 - 7:30 PM

“I take simple, bold, and instantly recognizable images of everyday life and paint them with a sense of drama. If there is a theory behind my work, it is semiotics: the theory of signs. Images can function like words in a sentence, the meaning of each image dependent on how it is paired with other symbols.” -- John Nelson

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition, Flowered, featuring new work by John Nelson, opening Wednesday February 4, from 5:30 – 7:30PM.

In this new body of work, Flowered, a whimsical and botanical language is expressed that extends beyond science to touch on themes of romance, fecundity, life phases and cycles. Nelson’s paintings bring together images of animal, plant and human forms in varying life phases to convey, through iconography and language, the whimsical and romantic abundance of life.

Andrea Schwartz Gallery was established in 1982 and is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco in our new gallery space at 545 – 4th Street. ASG exhibits contemporary work of mid-career artists from the Bay Area and across the country. ASG is a member of SFADA. Gallery Hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 5, Saturday by appointment. The gallery will be closed 2/16. For further information and materials please contact Jennifer Draughon at 415-495-2090 or [email protected]. Additional information may also be found on our website, https://www.asgallery.com. Thank you!
