Three eclectic directors, an adventurous choreographer, and one of the Bay Area’s most produced playwrights are teaming up to create a progressive suite of genre-defying performances for the San Francisco International Arts Festival.
This exciting group of collaborators will spontaneously create several short, site-specific performances in and around the Fort Mason Firehouse at the edge of San Francisco Bay. Incorporating material generated through months of collaborative exploration on themes of opposing forces--coming and going, ebb and flow, boom and bust, fire and water--HATCH Collective artists and performers will gather at the performance site for just one day, May 20, to create and set their works. Audiences will experience the suite during a guided tour at 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, May 21-29, and 4pm on May 28.
Embarking on this adventurous artmaking are HATCH Collective members Rebecca Longworth, Adam L. Sussman, and Lili Weckler, and two guest artists: playwright Megan Cohen (SF Neo Futurists, Horse’s Ass) and visual artist and community-based theatremaker Rebecca Schultz (Outlook Theater Project). HATCH member Casey Van Portfleet will compose a soundscape for the production, and guest artist Joan Howard will devise a series of interactive adventures for the audience to explore. Collaborating performers include Paul Collins, Julie Douglas, Danielle Gray, Maria Leigh, Sergio Lobito, Ryan Marchand, AeJay Mitchell, Hannah Wasilewski, and Anthony Julius Williams.
