On Saturday, July 18th at 7pm Transmission Gallery will host a screening of “San Francisco’s Wild History Groove”, Mary Kerr’s documentary on the 50s underground art and poetry scene as well as a poetry reading by David Meltzer and Julie Rogers.
Married to Les Kerr, an innovative artist of the Beat era avant-garde art scene in San Francisco, Mary was embedded in that culture and experienced the life. Years later, she had the unique opportunity to illustrate this history with first-hand accounts by influential artists of that time. Mary will be on hand for a question and answer session post-screening.
In the same evening, David Meltzer, a key poet of the beat generation, will read his poetry along with his wife and poet Julie Rogers.
This event marks the closing of our Kurt Fishback show “51 Portraits of Women Artists”, photography portraying the rich history of female artists in the bay area.
There is a suggested donation of $5 to benefit the Beat Museum.
