SOUND, SPECTACLE AND SCENERY:
FESTIVAL OF THE GOLDEN GATE KEEPS GETTING BETTER
SAN FRANCISCO: Local vaudeville acrobatic wizards the VAU DE VIRE SOCIETY plan two days of high-flying awe-inspiring performance on and around MICHAEL CHRISTIAN’s giant HYPHA structure. The performance-art group recently featured in both 7x7 Magazine and the SF Bay Guardian (“Best of the bay 2006”) will perform two complete choreographed circus shows, and add their unique magic to every aspect of this multifaceted Festival. Other recent additions include San Francisco girl-go rockers PERSEPHONE’ BEES and an extremely rare stripped-down set by “Stray Cat” BRIAN SETZER & THE NASHVILLAINS.
Wrapped in a natural garden amphitheatre setting with spectacular Bay views, the two-day festival features two stages of local and legendary rock, soul and pop headliners with sensational regional cuisine, wines and brews from 11 AM to 6 PM each day. Tickets ($35-$49)\ including special two-day passes, and more information are available at http://www.foggfest.com
and (415) 256-8499.
Also just added on Saturday are hometown "grrl-rock" champs THE DONNAS, their first local show in nearly two years since storming the country with their Ramones-meet-the-Runaways approach to fresh, punky pop-rock. Rounding out Saturday main-stage is Venezuelan disco kings LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES, Bay Area funk hero LYRICS BORN , and San Francisco singer-songwriter SEAN HAYES.
Sunday's main-stage lineup brings JAMES BROWN and his screaming 17-piece band to crown the inaugural festival, along with legendary New Orleans R&B pianist DR. JOHN, soul slinger LEELA JAMES, and gospel greats the BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA , Each day, the circus-performance mania of VAU DE VIRE SOCIETY will entertain during set breaks. All this will take place on the scenic Fort Mason Great Meadow, historic site of the much-loved San Francisco Blues Festival.
The festival's "HILLSIDE STAGE" hosts a full flight of emerging local artists each day. Saturday's lineup is anchored by local rocker SEAN HAYES, Seattle electronic drumming phenom K.J. SAWKA, local indie darlings PERSEPHONE's BEES and the roots-driven rock of SHANTYTOWN. Sunday features Latin-funk heir-apparent SALVADOR SANTANA, Ubiquity Records soul hurler NINO MOSCHELLA, and blues-rockers THE JEFF JOLLY BAND . A special treat on Sunday will be an exclusive tribal electronica all-star ensemble forged by Mutaytor bandleader MATTY NASH, and featuring luminaries such as Oingo Boingo bassist JOHN AVILA.
For the 4-star festival experience, a limited number of VIP tickets offer "up close" stage access, a commemorative limited edition poster, and an onsite private lounge. The festival is co-presented by BMP Events and Sunset Promotions, longtime producers of the annual North Beach Jazz Festival.
