Urs Leonhardt Steiner and the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will perform Felix
Mendelssohn’s monumental work, the oratorio Elijah. Influenced by Bach’s St. Matthew’s
Passion and oratorios by Handel, this work is based on the biblical story of the profit Elijah, and has been sung in English since its premiere, making it one of the more accessible choral works in the classical repertoire. Rarely presented due to its large scale, the GGSOC offers a unique opportunity for Bay Area audiences to hear Elijah performed with full chorus and orchestra.
Soloists:
Katya Roemer, Soprano
Lisa van der Ploeg, Alto
William Wiggins, Tenor
Richard Fey, Bass
