Description
This workshop is intended to banish the poetry fear factor, through reading, writing, and having lively discussions about both the process and the craft of poetry. What is a poem? How do poems work? Why write poems? Why ask these questions? Because nothing distills communication the way a good poem does. Because the combination of writing and reading, and having new work read and discussed by others helps us make poems truer to what drives us to write them in the first place. When that happens and our readers are stirred, are we scared? Nope, we’re hooked.

This class is suitable for a wide-spectrum of people. ‘We’ve had students with an interest in poetry but no experience writing it, and others with MFA’s from Iowa," says instructor Julie Bruck. The focus of the class will be mainly generative — to get everybody going and excited about doing new work, and then to learn new strategies that can help with current and future writing.
